Welcome to PROUD – A Sanctuary of Hope and Love for Dogs

At PROUD (Pets Relying On Unselfish Dedication), every dog has a story—and every story deserves a happy ending. What began as a heartfelt rescue effort by John and Marilyn Lofgren in 1982 has grown into a loving haven for dogs in need. In 1998, their compassion turned into a greater purpose with the founding of PROUD as a non-profit sanctuary. Since then, we’ve opened our hearts and doors to thousands of dogs who deserve a second chance at life.

We are not just a shelter—we are a sanctuary. Unlike most facilities, we never euthanize a dog unless they are suffering and cannot be helped. Every dog at PROUD is treated like family and can live with us for as long as they need—whether that’s days, months, or years—until their forever home is found.

With a dedicated team of staff and hard-working volunteers, we care for around 100 dogs at any given time. Our mission is built on love, patience, and the belief that every dog matters. Here, they are not just waiting—they are living, loved, and cherished.
